For those of you who don’t already know this, I entered tech entrepreneurship in my late teens to help my father bring an idea to life. In the nearly three decades since, the “great man” has continued to share ideas and thoughts from what is now over 40 years of experience in automotive F&I leadership. One idea was particularly interesting to me as I transitioned my focus to AI and research at Soaring Titan. Max is not affiliated with Soaring Titan, but for fun and reinforced learning, I chose to invest some personal time engineering an experimental AI backend for Max, with the help of great frontend developers at NuevaCode who I often rely on for proving out concepts.

Who or What is Max?
  • Max is a conversational AI that currently answers questions by F&I managers about the dealership’s lenders, their rates, their limits and guidelines.
  • Max is not a single AI like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, but a user does interact with Max in a similar way through natural language. In other words, you can literally “talk” to Max.
  • But, Max is not a simple “chat for your data” type of application.
  • Max is “agentic” so its intelligence is augmented by multiple AI models working together to produce smarter answers. In other words, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Max is many.
  • This is a critical distinction from commercial chat models and custom GPTs that cannot answer questions with the same level of efficacy in a specific business domain, even if knowledge files are uploaded to it for answers.
  • Max is an example of an application that exists in a landscape that is somewhere between AI and the AGI that humanity has not yet truly realized, but is moving towards. Though Max is independent of Soaring Titan and limited to automobile dealerships, it is this new “agentic” frontier that we're exploring at Soaring Titan, since it is dedicated to agentic solutions across domains.
What Does Max Like to Do?
  • Max was developed to help F&I managers maximize profit, while minimizing the risk of exceeding lender limits.
  • Max understands F&I, the dealership, the user, the lender programs available to it, the customer needs, and the unique relationships that exist between them all.
  • Max complements the intelligence of a great F&I manager by intuitively considering unique dealership characteristics and special lender relationships in all of its answers - things a human just doesn’t have enough time for in the scope of working a deal.
  • More broadly - and perhaps more importantly - Max answers the question of how AI can begin to be practical and profitable for dealers “today,” allowing them to embrace the technological change that will inevitably transform their industry.
What's Next for Max?
  • Already met with enthusiasm, Max needs more field testing in dealerships willing to try it.
  • The roadmap needs to be zero-ed in with early adopters, and would likely include expanded capabilities in F&I, and potentially integrated Sales and Service.

My friends and colleagues might ask, "So what does this mean for you, Clay?" Well, Soaring Titan is the go-forward vehicle for all things AI and Clay Turner because it is literally engineering technology to bring agentic AI to multiple business domains. But, I acknowledge that a lot of my LinkedIn professional network operates in automotive and lending environments because of my history. So, if Max sounds interesting to you, feel free to comment or ask me about it. I can connect you to the industry people involved.
